? QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

1. Think about the ways politicians approach information policy in their campaigns and public speeches. What do you notice? How does this impact the development of policy?

2. This chapter has discussed some of the ways that information policy intersects with other policy areas. What are some examples (either from this chapter or from your own professional knowledge and personal experiences) of ways that information policy impacts such public policy issues as public health, scientific research, and the development of technology?

3. What are the ways in which access to government information has increased over time? Conversely, what are the ways in which this access has diminished?

4. Consider what you’ve learned about copyright—is there a tension between increased copyright protections and freedom of access? Why or why not?

5. Cybersecurity is an increasingly studied topic in academia but has received less attention by the federal government. What are some reasons for this lack of attention, and what do these reasons tell us about the relationship of politics and information policy?
